How to create UGC-style ads with HeyGen that show real proof

An avatar can deliver the message. It cannot replace the product demonstration, credible claim, customer evidence, and testing discipline that make the message believable.

Quick answer

Choose one audience and problem, write a short hook → proof → benefit → CTA script, use a presenter who fits the message, and cut to real product footage or verified evidence frequently. Export in the placement’s native aspect ratio, add captions, disclose synthetic media where required, and test the idea rather than judging it by render quality.

Begin with one audience, one problem, one action

  • Audience: who should recognize themselves in the first sentence?
  • Problem: what specific friction is happening now?
  • Promise: what defensible outcome does the product support?
  • Proof: what can the viewer see or verify?
  • Action: what single next step should they take?
  • Placement: Reels, Stories, TikTok, feed, YouTube, or display?

If the brief has three audiences and four calls to action, generation will only make the confusion look polished.

Write hook → proof → benefit → CTA

HeyGen’s UGC guidance recommends communicating value in the opening seconds and keeping the script direct. A useful 20–30 second structure is:

  1. Hook: name the situation or outcome without a long greeting.
  2. Problem: show that you understand the specific friction.
  3. Proof: demonstrate the product, interface, result, or substantiated claim.
  4. Benefit: explain what changes for the user.
  5. CTA: one concrete next action.

Read the script aloud. Remove adjectives the product cannot prove, sentences that sound like a landing page, and any testimonial language that implies a real customer said something they did not.

Choose the presenter for audience fit, not novelty

Select an authorized avatar or properly consented digital twin whose setting, tone, age range, clothing, and delivery fit the intended context. Do not clone or imitate a real person without the rights and consent required by HeyGen, the ad platform, and applicable law.

Generate a short pronunciation test containing the brand, product, price, units, and CTA before rendering the whole ad. Correct the input convention across every variation.

Build proof moments around the presenter

Reddit practitioners repeatedly describe generic talking heads as the failure mode. Their stronger workflow cuts away every few seconds to evidence: product close-ups, screen recordings, actual use, before/after with substantiation, approved review excerpts, or the result in context.

For vertical placements, use 9:16 and keep faces, captions, logos, and CTAs inside platform safe zones. Meta recommends native 9:16 Reels creative with audio and key messages in the safe zone.

Handle rights, claims, and AI disclosure before upload

TikTok currently lists AI-generated, synthetic, or significantly manipulated media among mandatory ad-disclaimer cases. Google Ads provides an AI-content label setting and notes that labels do not replace legal compliance.

Export, review, and name the approved file

  • Watch once muted: do captions and proof carry the idea?
  • Listen without looking: is the claim clear and natural?
  • Review names, numbers, legal lines, and CTA word for word.
  • Check safe zones in an actual placement preview.
  • Verify the destination landing page and offer.
  • Name the file by campaign, angle, hook, format, and version.

Do not create twenty near-identical files before one concept passes this review. Next, use the controlled creative-testing workflow. For global campaigns, localize only after identifying a viable source concept with the multilingual ad guide.
